Allergies

You are not alone…

According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, 6.7 million children have hay fever, 8.3 million have respiratory allergies, 9.5 million have skin allergies, and six million have food allergies.  That’s a lot of allergic children!  While generally not life-threatening, allergy sufferers are often greatly affected by their conditions.

Conventional medicine has its place…

Conventional medicines are often effective when used short-term to control seasonal allergy symptoms. They are somewhat less effective at controlling symptoms of year-round allergies. Unfortunately, conventional medicines do not address the underlying cause of allergies. In addition, many allergy medicines have undesirable side effects.

You do have options…

Many people do not realize there are options in addition to conventional medicine that will actually make them better. By addressing the underlying causes of allergies, patients experience reductions in symptoms, improvements in overall health, and reduced dependence on medications.

There is hope…

For years, the doctors at Asheville Natural Health & Homeopathy have been helping children  reduce or eliminate their allergies. Call today to schedule an appointment. We use safe, effective natural therapies that are individualized for you. Get started on the road to recovery and reclaim your health!

What do you do for patients with allergies?

An allergy is an exaggerated response to a non-harmful substance by the immune system. The immune system may mount the same attack against , say, grass pollen as it would against a virus. The symptoms are very similar. In a viral infection, the need for the immune response is obvious. In a grass allergy, it is unnecessary and uncomfortable.

At Asheville Natural health & Homeopathy, we restore balance to the immune system so that it continues to function in response to viruses and bacteria, but not to harmless allergens. We do this using classical homeopathy, healthy diet and nutritional supplements.

Each patient’s plan is individualized – we have never found a “one size fits all” approach to be useful for the majority of people.

Homeopathy:

Homeopathy is part of the name of our practice because we believe so strongly in its power to cure disease. Homeopathic care involves the thorough evaluation of each patient’s exact symptoms. A single remedy is chosen that matches the subtleties of each case of disease. The remedy given restores balance to the many systems of the body that keep us well. [Read more about homeopathy.]

Diet:

We will ensure that your child’s diet is hypoallergenic and nutritious. Some foods can exacerbate allergy symptoms and should be minimized or eliminated from your child’s diet. Your child’s diet should be comprised of foods that are rich in anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrients.

Supplements:

We often recommend supplements known to reduce allergy symptoms. These are not immune system suppressants like conventional medicines, but rather nutrients that support balanced immune function. They all affect the inflammatory pathways that lead to allergy symptoms. We use supplements that have strong support in the medical literature.

What about my medications?

Conventional medicines are often effective when used short-term to control seasonal allergy symptoms. They are somewhat less effective at controlling symptoms of year-round allergies. Unfortunately, conventional medicines do not address the underlying cause of allergies. In addition, many allergy medicines have undesirable side effects.

At Asheville Natural Health & Homeopathy, our programs improve your child’s health on a fundamental level. Healthy bodies don’t need medications. Our goal is always to reduce or eliminate the need for medications, and we are generally successful.

Please don’t ever discontinue a medication without the consent of your physician, as that could be dangerous or uncomfortable.

Allergies can be difficult to eliminate, as the aggravating factor is difficult to avoid. Imagine trying to recover from an ankle sprain while running and jumping every day. The constant aggravation will slow healing. So in allergies does the constant presence of the allergen make it difficult to heal.

We do sometimes see our patients’ allergies go away immediately and completely. Most of the time, we’ll make progress over a period of twelve months. The vast majority who begin treatment during the peak of their allergy season are dramatically better by that same season the next year. We may see patients as often as weekly during the height of their season, and as infrequently as once every three months as their improvement progresses.

Supplements may be required at an additional cost. We try to keep supplements to a minimum, but our patients may spend $25 or more per month on supplements.

Ongoing follow up care may be required to maintain results.
