Autoimmunity

Juvenile arthritis and other autoimmune conditions.

You are not alone…

Almost 300,000 American children have juvenile arthritis, according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.  Various other aumotimmune diseases, such as idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura, also affect children.  Symptoms ranging from fatigue to pain to restrictions in mobility make autoimmune diseases debilitating for many children.

Conventional medicine has its place…

Conventional medicines can be lifesaving in emergency situations and can control symptoms for many people. Unfortunately, they do not address the underlying cause of the symptoms. In addition, some medicines have serious side effects that make their use undesirable.

You do have options…

Many people do not realize there are options in addition to conventional medicine that will actually make them better. By addressing the underlying causes of autoimmunity, patients experience reductions in symptoms, improvements in overall health, and reduced dependence on medications.

There is hope…

Homeopathy and naturopathic therapies can reduce or eliminate autoimmunity. Call today to schedule an appointment. We use safe, effective natural therapies that are individualized for your child. Get started on the road to recovery and reclaim your child’s health!

What do you do for patients with autoimmune disease?

Autoimmunity is characterized by a dysfunctional immune system. The immune system becomes sensitized to the patient’s own tissue, destroying it as if it were a bacterium or virus.

At Asheville Natural Health & Homeopathy, we restore proper immune function using classical homeopathy, therapeutic diets, nutritional supplements, and mindfulness-based stress reduction.

Each patient’s plan is individualized – we have never found a “one size fits all” approach to be useful for the majority of people.

Homeopathy:

Homeopathy is part of the name of our practice because we believe so strongly in its power to cure disease. Homeopathic care involves the thorough evaluation of each patient’s exact symptoms. A single remedy is chosen that matches the subtleties of each case of disease. The remedy given restores balance to the many systems of the body that keep us well. [Read more about homeopathy.]

Diet:

There are different therapeutic dietary approaches that we employ depending on each patient’s exact condition, sensitivities, lifestyle, and response to previous treatments. There is ample evidence in the conventional medical literature supporting therapeutic diets for autoimmunity. We comb that literature to add to our knowledge of the relationship between diet and disease.

Supplements:

Depending on your child’s exact condition, we may recommend one or more nutritional supplements. These will help to restore proper immune system function and reduce inflammation. We use supplements that have strong support in the medical literature.

Mindfulness-based stress reduction:

Stress can have a dramatic effect on our health. Many people with autoimmune disease experience flare ups during or following stressful periods in their lives. We employ simple mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) techniques to help patients reduce the impact of stress. MBSR involves simple exercises such as concentrating on one’s breathing to train the body and brain to remain calm during stress.  Even a minimal time commitment to MBSR might help a child heal, while also teaching a valuable stress-reduction tool that will last a lifetime.

What about my medications?

Conventional medicines can be lifesaving in emergency situations and can control symptoms in many people. Unfortunately, they do not address the underlying cause of the symptoms. In addition, some medicines have serious side effects that make their use undesirable.

At Asheville Natural Health & Homeopathy, our programs improve your child’s health on a fundamental level. Healthy bodies don’t need medications. Our goal is always to reduce or eliminate the need for medications, and we are generally successful.

Please don’t ever discontinue a medication without the consent of your physician, as that could be dangerous or uncomfortable.
