Thyroid Conditions

Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto’s Disease, Grave’s Disease

You are not alone…

According to the National Institutes of Health, thyroid disease affects 27 million Americans.  Most of these involve hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.  Each can cause changes in body function, mood, energy, and long-term damage to the heart and circulatory system.

Conventional medicine has its place…

Conventional medicines can be lifesaving in emergency situations and can control symptoms for many people. Unfortunately, they do not address the underlying cause of the symptoms. In addition, some medicines have serious side effects that make their use undesirable.

You do have options…

Many people do not realize there are options in addition to conventional medicine that will actually make them better. By addressing the underlying causes of thyroid disorders, patients experience reductions in symptoms, improvements in overall health, and reduced dependence on medications.

There is hope…

For years, the doctors at Asheville Natural Health & Homeopathy have been helping people recover from thyroid disorders. Call today to schedule an appointment. We use safe, effective natural therapies that are individualized for you. Get started on the road to recovery and reclaim your health!

What do you do for patients with thyroid disorders?

Different thyroid diseases have different causes.  Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, for example, are poorly understood.  Hashimoto’s and Grave’s disease are known to be autoimmune diseases, but their causes are poorly understood as well.  Some dysfunction of the endocrine system, nutritional deficiencies, or immune system imbalance is probably involved in most cases.

At Asheville Natural Health & Homeopathy, we address these imbalances using classical homeopathy, therapeutic diets, nutritional supplements, and mindfulness-based stress reduction.

Each patient’s plan is individualized – we have never found a “one size fits all” approach to be useful for the majority of people.  We spend two hours with an adult patient on the first visit to make sure we understand very thoroughly what is going on in your body. We also spend time in follow up visits to make sure that healing is progressing as well as possible.

Homeopathy:

Homeopathy is part of the name of our practice because we believe so strongly in its power to cure disease. Homeopathic care involves the thorough evaluation of each patient’s exact symptoms. A single remedy is chosen that matches the subtleties of each case of disease. The remedy given restores balance to the many systems of the body that keep us well. [Read more about homeopathy.]

Diet:

We evaluate your diet to make sure it is rich in the nutrients your thyroid needs to function properly.  We also make sure you are getting enough of the nutrients your immune system needs to stay balanced and effective.

Supplements:

Depending on your exact condition, we may recommend one or more nutritional supplements. These will help to support healthy thyroid and immune system function.  We focus on supplements that have strong support in the medical literature.

Mindfulness-based stress reduction:

Stress can disrupt proper thyroid function.  We use mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) techniques to reduce the disruptive effect of stress hormones.  MBSR involves simple exercises such as concentrating on one’s breathing to train the brain to remain calm during stress.

What about my medications?

Conventional medicines can be lifesaving in emergency situations and can control symptoms in many people. Unfortunately, they do not address the underlying cause of the symptoms. In addition, some medicines have serious side effects that make their use undesirable.

At Asheville Natural Health & Homeopathy, our programs improve your health on a fundamental level. Healthy bodies don’t need medications. Our goal is always to reduce or eliminate the need for medications, and we are generally successful.

Please don’t ever discontinue a medication without the consent of your physician, as that could be dangerous or uncomfortable.

Thyroid disorders may take four to eight visits to have a substantial impact. These visits may be bi-weekly or monthly at first, becoming less frequent as your health improves.  Follow up visits will last 45 minutes to one hour, as they involve coaching and counseling as well as homeopathy.

Supplements may be required at an additional cost. We try to keep supplements to a minimum, but our patients may spend $25 or more per month on supplements.

Ongoing follow up care may be required to maintain results.
